Win XP Repair
I am trying to repair my Win XP software.
Because I never attempted this before I am a little nervous. These questions might seem basic but please bare with me. Do I insert my CD and then turn on the computer? When I turn the computer on do I push any key buttons to prompt me to the repair option? thanks for your help |

Boot from the CD.. you will be given options for repair wtih command console or to do a windows install. What you want is the windows install.. from there, you will be given the option to do a repair installation. When it starts... a lot of people panic cuz they see the system starts deleting a whack load of files... this is OK and normal.
Now I'm not sure why.. but I have booted from some PC's and NOT been given the repair option. In these instances, you can re-install to the same directory, BUT, you DO get a warning that items in the My Documents directory will most likely be lost.

I've done it Hal's way and it might be a little scary at first, but it works fine. Only thing is, you'll have to go to Windows Update and reload all the updates for your system to get it current again.
