Unhappy DirectX problem!!

My PC wont upgrade to DirectX 9.0b runtime!
It states that I currently have DirectX 8.2. When I go to download either from a game CD or Microsoft's website everything is fine until it gets to the part when it's trying to install qdvd.dll - the PC hangs then states "did not copy required file" then the update aborts! ( Also will not install that "819616" critical update from their website.) Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Not that this affects your problem, but have your installed Service Pack 1 to your XP?

Yes I did. Windows update installation history says it was successful.

Send a message via AIM to Speedypeanut
if you have automatic updates on, that might be the problem, wait a while till the lil globe at the bottom pops up and says updates, or chnage the date so it says it like and hour or 2 mins from now, then update ti that way, or turn it off and go update

Thanks for the reply.

I tried it that way as well but still the same problem. When it arrived at the point where it was to install qdvd.dll it hung then displayed "did not install required file" then aborted..
