Can you not remove the new one?

You should have the option to select the new one and remove it, then restart the computer and see how things are. If the programs still don't open, try restoring the registry to a point before you did this. Boot to the command prompt and type "Scanreg /restore" without the quotation marks.

hmm.. Could you tell me what everything was? LIke I create a new .exe file with the commands and everyting? Cuz I cant make disketts, or I cant boot into dos. I would reinstall windows but I dont have a format disk Like you go to Folder Options --> File Types --> then you click on new, fill in the blanks (.exe). then go to advanced and fill in whatever needs to be filled in there. Would that work? But I don't know what Im supposed to put in the fields...

Hi duddy11

Roger's repair should work. Here's how you do it:
1) Click on the Start button. From the Shutdown option menu that appears in the little gray box, Click to select Restart Computer in MS-DOS mode.
2) From the command prompt C:, type the command Roger told you about, like this
Scanreg /restore
3) You'll see a list of dates. Choose one from before you made the .exe file association change. Windows 98 makes a backup copy of the Registry each time you reboot, so you should have a good copy from before your current trouble.
4) When done, type "exit" from the command prompt (without the quotes), and you should have your programs available again.
______________
If you have any trouble getting to DOS mode, try booting from your Windows CD. If you need help doing that, post another note for us here.

Best of luck

Press F8 repeatedly while booting to get to the startup menu, then select Command prompt from there.

Hi again -

Sounds like you might be running WinMe... so you actually have a choice once you're tapping that F8 key just like Roger said ---> you can either use the scanreg/restore command from the command prompt, Or - you can use System Restore (it's built into WinMe) feature from Safe Mode = either one should work. In either case, you select a date from before your .exe association change.
