I have a Hewlett Packard 6645c (no laughing please), and recently downloaded a sound driver update from HP support. Except now, the volume on my PC is cranked wayyyyy up, and I have to keep the wave volume down to the very bottom of the slider. Also, Winamp and various other games boost the volume up independently now. This NEVER happened when I originally got the computer, only after the update. And I always had all the volume controls (wave, synth, cd, etc.) all the way up, and regulated the volume with the master control on the keyboard, so this is not a simple problem with volume levels. It is caused by a defective update from HP. As of now my solution is that it's equivalent to where it should be when I have all the volume levels at about 5%. This seems to work okay, but obviously something is wrong, being that the new drivers boost the volume to ridiculous levels.
Many people wrote to the HP forums complaining, and they simply said to reinstall the old drivers, rather than releasing a fixed update. And, they have removed the support forums, so now support from HP is basically nonexistent. The problem is, I can't seem to get the old drivers reinstalled, even after removing everything from the device manager and using the recovery CD.
Has anyone else had this problem and got it fixed?? Please help, it's really really annoying me! Thanks
