Question how well will this work?

alright, these people gave me their computer to fix up and get ready to be used. here are the specs:

packard bell w/ 75mhz pentium processor
1 gb hd
24 mb ram

great specs, eh?

anyway, they are installing a wireless network, and they have an unused 98 cd sitting around from another computer that they threw out (full version, not a restore disk). can i put this on there, and then put a wireless card on their, or am i asking for trouble? thanks

I don't know how it will do wireless, but I have put 98 on a computer like that with an ethernet card and connected through a router. Win 98 will run slow as heck, but it will run. I did take everything not absolutely needed off tho.

sweet, i am going to buy the pci one tomorrow and test it on my wireless before taking it over there. i think it ought to work, but who know, 75mhz is a little slow, but it should do. also, is there anyway to find out the amount of ram that thing can hold? thanks

I'm not experienced enough with the old computers, so I'll leave the memory to someone more knowledgable. You might try here to find out more info.

Did you install the software & driver first, then shutdown, install the card then start it?

alright, so i decided that i was going to reformat the hd b/c i remembered that i had done minimal install b/c of limited hd space. so now when i put the bootdisk in and the cd, i type setup (after fdisking) and then it freezes on

"Please wait while the system initializes.
Scanning system registry...
Windows Setup requires 7340032 bytes on your C:"

and it just sits there forever

any advice

What all did you do when you ran fdisk? Delete partitions and recreate them? Format the drive?

Have you tried setting the 1st boot device in the bios as the cd-rom and boot to the cd? The Windows XP can partition and format the drive before installing.
