Alcatel SpeedTouch Home and WinXP

If this is in the wrong place please let me know.
I just installed a new modem(Alcatel Speedtouch Home) for Bellsouth DSL running WinXP. Ever since I did that Windows boots fine except when you log on. When you log on It loads 1 program(near the clock) and stalls for about a minute, then continues to load the other programs.
I am using a Netgear FA311 10/100 ethernet card. I tried using the ethernet plug on my MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR MB, but it doesn't work so I had to install the FA311. It won't connect using the MCP Ethernet plug on my MB. It is disabled in the BIOS and I can connect fine, but when I log on it freezes. Any ideas out there? I have tried uninstalling programs and uninstalling/reinstalling drivers. Nothing is working.
I forgot to say that I converted it into a pro with no problems. And this problem eisted even when it was a home.
