automatic startup at midnight

My dads computer automatically starts up at midnight ever night. It's quite an annoying problem because the fans aren't the quietest and usually wake me up . why the heck is it doing this and how do i stop it, or at least change it to a decent hour??

do you have a network with wake-on lan. this function allows your computer to turn on via the lan, so i would look for wake-on lan settings

my first thort on your problam is a program is set to conect to the internet every night and check for updates the sort of programs that do this are antivirus or real player and windows can all so be configerd to check for updates or any of the programs that run in the system tray so you nead to find out which one and change the time it updates

Automatically starts up....
The assumption here is that the computer is on and in standby or hybernate mode ?

andyms18a has you on the right track.

This might be part of IE's "synchronization".

In IE, select "Tools" from the menu.
Select "Synchronize"
and have at it.

not much...good luck
