Lost my NT kernel...
Well, I think it happened when the PC locked up and I had to hard-reset the PC- same thing happened to another PC. Luckily the other PC had a RAID 1 array so with some good thinking the other Pc should still have all it's data.
I on the other hand, was an idiot. I have RAID 0 with on a pair of old dieing hard-drives. The message at startup says: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: please re-install a copy of the above file So I decided to try to run the Windows 2000 setup: It asked me for a recovery CD- for my PC. Doh! If I had the PC running to make a recovery CD I wouldn't need the Windows 2000 repair tool.... Anyways, I at least have access to the Recovery console. ![]() However I don't know what to do. I think I might be able to get away with copying the ntoskernel from one PC then trying to put that kernel on my PC. Any other suggestions? I really don't want to loose my data. L J

Well, I decided to hook my 30GB hard-drive back up, and install windows on the 30GB in hopes that I would be able to then find the array in windows.
I screwed up. I left the RAID array attached, first time through the install Windows was un-succesfull. Next time, it let me repair the Windows install- this let me run windows with one slight difficulty- A LOT of programs are gone- they won't run due to missing Windows files... No big deal I can access the user files and copy them over to the 30GB drive. The RAID array was having problems so I decided to un-plug the array and re-install windows on the 30GB(before Windows had set it up as a "seconday" drive with no files or folders...). Right as I pushed the key to format the drive I thought to myself, "did I cut and paste those files to the other drive, or copy and paste them?"... turns out cut and paste deletes the file from its original location(which I knew...) and that is what I did... So if it wern't for my stupidity I would have all my data. L J |
