XP ssuts down by itself??

Here's a odd one. When stating XP home edition with 3 users and clicking on the user that is the administrator, xp loads the setting for this user and then proceeds to shut down and then reboots??? When clicking on the other users, XP loads their settings and is OK..no reboot.

Any ideas??

its either some thing in the startup settings for the admin account or a damaged admin profile the first thing to do is press the f8 key as soon as the bios finishes loading to get to the boot menu then go to safe mode log on as the user with the problem and run msconfig look in the start up section for any thing that is shutting down windows if its OK try system restore

Thanks andy. I figured it was in the administators settings. He started in the safe mode but didn't know what to do once he got there.

I tried restore which would not let me restore to the point I chose.

He has messenger starting @ boot up and when it loaded messenger, it would shut down windows and reboot the computer. I figured it had to do with messenger.

I opened a program or two to load before messenger loaded an it did not shut down. Messenger loaded with no shut down and I had him sign in to messenger and all seemed to work fine.

Later he told me he had logged off and shut down and then restarted ihe computer and all went well.

I haven't seen him as yet this day and if the problem pops up again will do as suggested.

Thanks again,
