Not sure the max for 98se, but I know I had to flash my BIOS to the newest version to be able to go above I think 37GB. Check with your mobo manufacturer to see what it and your BIOS can handle.

You don't have to upgrade your bios, just install 3RD party TSR's in the config.sys to allow your OS to bypass the bios and read the drive as is. Hard Drive makers such as Maxtor have these 3RD party utilities to do so.

It's an odd number, like 137 gigs. I've run 120 gig drives with Win 98.2 with no problems. That is assuming your mobo and BIOS can handle it.

Assuming you will be using FAT32, and your BIOS has LBA, FAT32 file system supports hard disks up to 2 terabytes in size.

There is a 512 gig partition size limit for Fdisk.

ms has a decent write-up here :

good luck

I do believe that’s a theoretical limit. Even XP requires SP 1 to read drives larger than 137GB.

It should be able to use hard drives with those sizes.

two rails,
thanx..yep, i don't think any of the win OS's have 48-bit LBA support enabled by default - hence the 24 bit OS 137gb limit.
