windows keep checking for disk error??

hi,
whenever i start windows 2000 it keeps saying there is a disk error and checks for it, this happens everytime, even if windows is properly shutdown. also everything is running very slow, sometimes IE takes almost 2-3 minutes just to open. any ideas on what wrong, is it the disk that's messed up? if so are there ways to fix this? we still have about 651 mb left on c: and another 18.8 gig on e: so i'm sure it can't be disk space, correct?

Thank you.

it may be disk space if 2k has a page file on the c drive that is bigger than 651mb then you will get problams try and move your my doc folder to the other hard drive and any other data you nead as well try and get at least 1.5gb of space on you c drive all so you must let check disk finish its scan other wise it trys to scan again on the next boot
