Outlook Restore

I have reformatted my HD to clean it up a bit. To save contacts and a variety of emails in Outlook I searched for and saved the outlook.pst file. I was using Office 2000 and I have upgraded to Office XP.

It seems that there is not a *.pst file anywhere on my computer right now. Can anyone suggest what I could do to try and recover this?

If I had to install Office 2000 again and downgrade, would I then be able to get some of these emails and contacts back?

Thanks
