# of processes
I have 38 Processes right now, Ill post a screenshot soon to see if they are all valid, but this seems like alot for me.
I also have like 3 svchost.exe for system, one for network service, and 1 for local service is that right, what does svchost do? One I am worried about is a Iamapp.exe one. Is that for something legit. How many processes do you guys have?

Download and Install XP-Anti Spy from the link below. This program will allow you to easily get rid of the services that you really don't need.

I only have 16 running. 20 or more seems excessive.

I have 48, and I have done all the tweaking I can from the blackviper site.
Having a lot of processes running is sometimes unavoidable. I have processes running for the special keys on my keyboard, antivirus, and so on. I also have four instances of SVCHOST. |

Just counted I have 28, however I run InCD, Norton AV, Diskeeper etc. I checked after a clean install and I think it was 16.

Anything that you have installed to run at startup will show up there, and may not be in the services area to be disabled. The srvchost's are kinda important but I have run with only 3. Think one of them is netbios, and I can run without that.
As to how many are too many, that depends on system specs. Keep in mind that services do nothing untill called upon by the os or app(s). They take no cpu time and will be paged to disk after a short time of inactivity. Some services are vital, so be carefull in disabling them. You can disable to the point of not being able to boot. On game servers that do nothing but host game, I have been able to get services down to 13 with game server and task manager running. I do this for memory footprint and security reasons.
