Not accessible Access Denied
Trying to slave a hard drive from another WinXP system in my own computer in order to burn files to CD. I want to copy files from a sub folder created under Documents and Settings. The folder name is GM1 (customer's initials).
When I try to open it in explorer (my computer) I get this: F:\Documents and Settings\GM1 is not accessible Access is denied. What has locked this and is there a way around this? The machine the drive came out of no longer exists. Please advise. Alan Last edited by tacoeater; 12-04-2003 at 02:40 AM. |

Have you tried going in as a user who has Administrative privileges?

thanks obenton but i said two things in my original question that rule that out:
1] running drive containing that folder as a slave to my system drive....you can only do that to the active system drive (XP on my C drive) 2] the computer from which that drive with the folder i needed to access no longer exists, dead, kaput, trashed, fried, so i cannot run as administrator anything to do with that drive i think? |

you nead to take control of the folder or make a new admin account on your computer with the same user name and password as was on the old computer

Whats it looking like in computer management? sometimes you have to reactivate/initialise or import foreign disks depending on how it was set up on the original computer.

Does booting into safe mode and logging into the admin account still create the same problem?

You will have to take auditing or ownership controls of the drive and folders through the advanced permissions.
