in 98 i used to be able to choose show all files and don't hide files with such and such file extensions. in other words all files. how is this done in XP. are certain files not shown unless explorer is configured to show all? what is the command to do this proceedure?

Have you tried show all files?I don't know the command. But I do know xp is trying to protect users from deleting important files. Why would you want to view all files anyway? There is a freeware from a university familytree hd or something like that which shows space occupied in colors. Sorry, no help

what i needed to know was that it was under Tools.

i expanded a bios upgrade for a gateway and I wanted to get all the files when i copy it to a diskette.
Thanks again,
