Null remote address at startup

I cant shutdown so I hold the front button 5 seconds and it shuts down.Then at startup I get the message null remote address.I have a dell with windows xp home edition sp1,2gb pentium 4,256 meg ram,nvidia geforce4,120gb hard drive.

Does your computer hang on the windows is shutting down screen? Try stripping the startup of the system configuration utility.

No it doesnt.I just see the desktop with no message.When I disable all in startup in system configuration utility it shuts down ok and I do not get the message null remote address at startup.

Actually if I keep everything checked in startup except kernel 32 it shuts down ok.What does kernel 32 do?Thanks!

is it kernel32.exe or kernel32.dll as the exe file is a virus and the dll file is a system file check out this link http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

Does this mean I have to do a selective startup shutdown without kernel32.dll checked?
