Win 3.1 software (Rockford! Windows Business Card Designer) on WinXP Pro

Anyone know if it is safe to use old Win 3.1 based software on WinXP Pro O/S? I have some old Win 3.1 programs on hard floppies I want to try out but I don't want to crash my Win XP Pro PC.

I don't think anyone can honestly answer that without trying it.

Intuitively you're correct, of course. I just hate to "rock the boat" and add frustration to my day. I guess I just need to bite the bullet, eh?

my gut feeling is that it won't run

you will not hurt xp by trying it as you can always do a restore point to the before you try it.

I know how to create a restore point but what if the system doesn't even boot up? (That happened when I tried to "clean up" with Evidence-eliminator not realizing that my version from WinMe wouldn't work with XP Pro.)
Guess I need to make a boot disk too?

I have several old win 3.1 programs that my wife uses for making labels that work fine. You should probably install them in combatibility mode for win 95.

I've had all my addresses in Card File for over 10 years from Win 3.11. Whenever I get a new computer or OS, I just copy the old cardfile.exe file I copied from Win 3.11 in 1994 to the Windows directory on the new system. I've never had to mess with the compatability either.
