Question Hiding net connection icon

How can you hide the inactive net conenction icon in the system tray without selecting the "hide inactive icons" option in the taskbar properties in XP Pro?

Stopping and disabling the Network Connections service prevents the network icon from being displayed, although the connection will still work.
