win386.swp
I have had (or thought so) my swap file in its own partition for some time now until I went to check the settings for some unknown reason today.
I have a partition I named swap at a healthy 4gig it contains a copy of the file win386.swp and I have directed my computer to use this as the Virtual Memory. when I choose these settings and apply then exit "control panel" then return it has changed back to "let windows manage my virtual memory settings" it wasn't always like this and I have monitored my swap file size over the last few months and watched it veri from 67mb to 200mg or so max and everywhere in between. it is still using the "swap" drive and shows that the file (win386.swp) was last modified on todays date about 2 min ago. Also it appears to also be using the c;/windows/win386.swp file at least part of the time as it was last modified at about 5 O'Clock today however it is a zero kb file. the system still seems to run normal (besides a intermitant stall I have yet to figure out) is this normal? FYI win 98se all patches and such

If you restart to SAFE mode, it will use a swapfile under \Windows.

It uses/creates one under \Windows while in Safe mode.
To confirm your settings, do Start > Run > System.ini and look for the variables MinPagingFileSize and MaxPagingFileSize These are the upper and lower bounds on the swapfile. Also, PagingDrive will tell you the drive that it is on. |

If there are NO Min/Max specifications, then it is being Windows managed on d:
Which, if it is a dedicated drive, is fine. Or, even if it isn't, it's fine. |

I don't understand what you consider a problem.
You have moved the swapfile to another partiton, you have not set min or max and that is exactly what the System.ini parameters show, and your original JPG that you attached! |

ha ha galaxian love the Elane "!"
![]() Actually what the JPG shows is "let windows manage my virtual memory settings" The options I have chosen are what are shown in Grey under "let me specify my own virtual memory settings". So displaying the incorrect option is what I consider a "problem""!" |

Aha!
I wouldn't worry about it. As long as your swapfile IS on D: (which it is), all is working as you want it to. |
