How do I do a clean install?
I have a computer with NT. Tonight I went to upgrade to XP and all I ended up doing was having a machine with both NT and XP. I dont want NT on my machine at all. During the installation I never saw an option for deleting the old operating system. It seems the best thing to do is to wipe the hard drive clean and start with a clean install of XP. I have no problem with going through the partitioning process. In fact, when I upgraded from 98 to XP on my laptop, my hard drive was repartitioned...but I dont understand why it did it for my laptop but not my desktop?
How do I wipe my hard drive clean so I can start with an absolutely clean install of XP? Thanks |

Other than using XP you can do Fdisk or write the disk to zeros with a program such as this.
http://www.killdisk.com/features.htm Or you can use the Utility disk for your HD. It will wipe your disk and you can use it to repartition. It can be downloded from the HDD manufacturers website. |

Boot from the XP disc to do a clean install. Set the computer to boot from the CD-ROM first instead of the HD, then make sure the XP CD is in the drive and boot up, from there the CD will take you through the process.
