Go into the control panel/install - uninstall programs and select IE6. It will give you a repair option. Try that first. If it doesn't work, got to MS/windows and download the latest IE6 w/ SP1 and save it to your desktop. Reinstall it from there and when it tells you that you already have IE6 on your system, click on the replace it option.

not sure what you mean you can't get at router settings in IE.
maybe IE is set to use a proxy server and it shouldn't or vice-verse. If you can, either through the Tools\Internet Options menu or, right click on the IE desktop icon and select properties select the connection tab and select LAN to check it out. not much good luck Last edited by stylin19; 12-13-2003 at 01:50 AM. |

I'm useing a router/modem combo. According to IE there set up right and IE should be able to go online.
It's been working ever since I installed Win 2000 on this computer a couple months ago. Today it just decided to stop. The never dial a connection is ticked. |

To delete the entries in the DNS cache, type ipconfig /flushdns at a command prompt
also check out this link http://support.microsoft.com/default...roduct=win2000 |

Luckily I don't have to mess with software firewalls.
andyms18a- Flushing DNS didn't work I look at the MS page but that was for people that can't connect to their network. Everything but IE works, this is drving me nuts. |

Is your Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings set to automatically detect settings? If so turn it off, close IE and restart it.

sorry to hear you are still having problems. It could be a corrupt index file.
1. open a command prompt. 2. Change the directory to the following path: 3. drive:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 4. Type del index.dat - then press ENTER. 5. Exit the command prompt and then restart the computer. The Index.dat file is re-created the next time that you log on to the computer. You may have to log on as a different user to get this to work. not much good luck Last edited by stylin19; 12-14-2003 at 12:03 PM. |

The problem must of been with my modem/router. Last night my computer froze, I restarted it froze on startup. I then did a repair install, restarted it froze. I tried my ghost image, restarted and froze. Did a complete reinstall and it still froze!! The I finally put everything together and realized it only froze when trying to make a network connection. I unpluged my router, reinstarted and windows loaded. Pluged my modem in and it froze. So I unplugged it over night put it back in a few minutes ago and now everything works.
