Outlook Express
Im using Windows 98, and recently Ive been getting error messages when I try to send emails followed by an illegal operation message. I also get error numbers such as:
0x800C131 0x800CCC79 and 550 It then doesn't send the email, but If I restart the PC it does. Also when I restart it auto runs scandisk, but when it gets to about 80% it says this: Scandisk detected an invalid long filename entry on this drive but was unable to fix it. Run scandisk for windows. But when I do run scandisk for windows it doesnt find anything. Thanks for any help with this ![]() Lloyd |

Don't know about the first part... maybe posting the complete error message will help.
One the second part, you have, and can set, different options for Scandisk. Make sure you checkmark all the things you want Scandisk to check for when it runs. TwoRails |

Same as tworails, make sure thorough scan is checked in the options, alternativly you could restart the computer into msdos mode and run a scandisk at C:\ and perform a surface scan.

1. Post back the exact and complete error message that you are getting.
2. Re: Scandisk. The error indicates that "the folder could not be opened in MS-DOS mode because its complete short name was longer than 66 characters." And example is "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MACROMED\SHOCKW~\XTRAS\DOWNLOAD\MACROM~1\HAVOKW32" This is one of those "who cares" errors that you do NOT want to fix. These are long Windows file names and the error just indicates it can't be opened in DOS.(which you never will) |
