dsound3d.dll not copied correctly

I am using a valid XP Pro Cd and I when installing XP fresh I get the following message:
dsound3d.dll was not copied correctly
the message then insinuates that the cd is not a legal copy.
i did some searching and the only place i find the file is associated with AGP card, not sound.
the agp i had was an old trident blade 8mb with no windows drivers so i put in a 32mb nvidia out of an old gateway i had in the junk bin.
when i installed the card XP seemed to set it up with no hiccups. so then i try to do a fresh install with that card and get the same message about dsound3d.dll that i got with the trident card.
install does go on past that message and all seems ok until i try to update to directx9b with windows update. it hangs on this dll and won't install.
the only thing on the web that matches the message is in greek (really greek) so i don't know what to do.
anyone have any experience with this problem.
thanks,
alan

I had a prob almost the same, running fresh install and .dll files missing etc.

What I found was that the XP disc I had was original but an original for that particular module, compaq.

When I bought a microsoft XP disc and ran no problems at all.

don't know if it would work but thought I would mention it.
