Help! I'm locked out....

In my infinite wisdom I've managed to lock myself out of windows 2000. I don't know (or just can't remembe)r the Administrator password needed to log on to the system. I don't have any other users that can log on either. Is there some way around this logon? Should I just reformat? Any ideas?

Check out www.ultimatebootcd.com it has a NT password reset progam on this boot disk. You will have to download the .iso image and burn it using Nero or Roxio. THen place the disk in the CD drive and boot it up. Select "Offline NT Password & Registry Editor" program and follow the directions. I have done it on several 2000 Pro systems and it worked every time. The 1st time I did it I had to do it twice, but it did work. You can reset the password to anything you want or change any user password. Make sure you read the instructions first.

Hi there,
if this is your machine then may you use this,:
Remove your hard drive from the computer - slave it to another Win2K machine - start the computer and then change the drive to your drive -
there find Winnt\system32\config folder look for the file SAM this file has NO extension - delete it .
Shut down the computer put back the drive where it belongs too and then reboot - when asked for a password just hit enter .. you can change your password afterwards without problems..

That is what the program I posted the link to does. You can do it without removing the drive or the need for another computer to connect it to.

gosh.
I am really sorry about the bad information on this.
I have just recently taken the A+ exam and that was one of the question that in the book used to study for it and on the sample test, that is what the correct answere would be.

and I thank you for the correction

While your intentions may be sincere, it has beein the the past our policy here at PC Mechanic to NOT provide support for getting around system passwords. We have no way of knowing for sure if you are sincere in your request, or somebody trying to hack into the system for malicious purposes.

Thank you for understanding.
