Don't know that there is a patch. I just loaded it normally when I built my 845 Chipset/2.4b/533 fsb system. I did remove one stick of ram first (2x512) and then modified the registry to be able to handle the 1Gb. Shutdown/installed the other 512 and ran great. Using it right now matter of fact. It's a dual boot with XP Home.

edit: just noticed the system in your sig. Must be that's the one to get the 98se? Since you're only running 512, shouldn't need the registry fix.

Yup, just checked my mobo manual for my P4P800 Deluxe and it says 98se is a supported os. You won't believe how fast 98se can run til you put it on one of these new boards!!

Just check on pricing of Windows XP Home Upgrade for you. If you have a legit copy of 98se with the product key, you can use the upgrade instead of full version. Best price I found is at Amazon.com $79.99 after a $10 rebate. That's not much less than the full version from Newegg ($91)

Just thought of something you may encounter. You'll probably want to format and partition your hdd before you install the os. If you use fdisk on a 98se boot disk, you may have a problem recognizing the full size of your hdd. Here's a link to the fix.

you might will have some issuses for the Disc controllers but if you are using the board manufacturers installation CD so I think you will be almost free of bad surpises..

I just read something about using 98se with any Hyperthreading CPU. 98 doesn't support Hyperthreading. If you look under Device Manager in windows XP when running a a HT processor, you will see 2 processors listed. In 98 you only see one.

I find this interesting as I tried to create a dual-boot 98se/XPpro system with an athlon 3000 which actually runs at 2200 and I was able to install 98 only when underclocking the system so it runs at 1650.

WinXP will install and run fine at 2200.

Win98se will install and run at 1650 it crashes the install at 2200 and when installed at 1650 won't start at 2200 I just get Windows protection error.

some board do have a problem with it and there is a fix in the microsoft data base,
you'll have to search for it as I don't remember what it was but it is a minor thing
