Question Setting up Page File?

I just upgrade my Ram from 512MB to 1GB, which probably means that I have to change the setings for the page file.

I currently have it set at:
384MB Intial Size & 768MB Max Size, on Drive "C"
And
384MB Intial Size & 768MB Max Size, on Drive "D"

Any suggestion on what setting I should use for this new Ram?

note: Im using Win XP.

no changes are necessary.
with that much ram xp will not even think about useing page file at all
its only used when you run out of ram, its the same thing as vertual memory on the hard drive and uses a small part anyway

I have my page file set at initial 512 and max 3072. I read somewhere that max should be 2.5x to 3x your total RAM. Doesn't really matter though b/c I'm running 1 gig of RAM and I haven't seen my page file go past the 512 initial.

with a gig of ram and xp i wood set the page file to windows managed size then run the computer for about a month affter that pres ctrl alt and deleat to bring up task manager on the preformance tabe check the entry marked commit charge the last line labeled peak is the largest amount of page file you have used in kilobits devide it by 1024 and that gives you an idea of how much page file you are using i have 3 gb of ram and use about 100 mb page file

Lotsa differing opinions on how to manage page file with XP. I use this info to do mine on all XP's.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

I use Partition Magic to set up the Page File on it's own partiton. On new installs I keep XP and any drivers/software that directly relates to hardware on the first partition, page file on the second, other programs on a third, and all other data files on one or more additonal partitions. This all depends on the size of the hard drive.

The os will always page things no matter what you do. Some apps will always page things too. Best left alone other than placing it on the fastest part of a drive, and/or on multiple drives, and set larger minimum than will ever be used.

Strange Andy, your link looks just like mine.

Using PM won't increase performance unless you consider that if allows you to divide up your hard drive space into smaller segments (partitions). Each partition is then quicker to defragment. Keeping the OS on a separate partition and keeping it defragmented will also help performance, but PM by itself offers no performance advantage that I know of.
