xp installation problem please help

ok so here is the thing i am just after building this new computer. p4p800 del intel 3 gig 1gig ram ati radeonxt. the problem accurs when i try to install xp the first part of the installation goes ok (formatting etc) however when it reboots for the second part it goes to install the devices it shuts down suddenly as there was a power failure or like i just pulled out the power lead or unplugged. I have no idea why its doing this i am just hoping someone here will be able to help me

Cool

XP is particular about RAM. What kind do you have? Since you have 1M I presume that you have 2 512K sticks. I would try the install with just one stick. If that fails try with the other stick.

but would the ram cause the computer to turn off like that during installation?

The ram i have is Corsair TWINX1024-3200LL DDR-DIMM 1024MB

Missed that part about shutting down. I don't think so, but I would still try it with one stick and see what happens. You have nothing to loose by trying.

in the bios have you enabled virus protection if you have disabble it till after windows finishes instaling

Make sure your processor is not overheating. Is the fan seated correctly on the chip. Another thing you can try is to install the OS with basic components installed. Let me know, i am curios...

the anti virus is disabled and when i was using only one stick of ram the installation went on linger but still shut down with about 10 min to go what do you mean by basic components installed. thanks for all your ideas by the way

Try it with just the video card plugged in with no other cards. Keep me posted...

ok i think its a hardware problem its either the cou or the mb. so which do you think is more likely to cause a shut down during an xp installation but if an installation is not attempted will leave the computer run
