Norton Antispam cause this ?
Whenever I designate a message as "this is not spam" in the Norton Antispam folder of OE, this error message "DirectDBNotifyWndProc : msimn.exe - Application Error" will appear as a header with this body text "The exception unknowm software exception (0xc00000fd) occured in the application at location 0x71764c22"
It will then require a restart of the PC to access OE again. Have tried reinstalling Norton but problem remains Any advice appreciated.

Hi there,
I think you should UNINSTALL NORTON ANTI SPAM and make sure that you also have all registry entries cleaned out.. Then reistall OE or use the repair option upgrade to the next higher version is a possiblity also - it's free from mssoft website.. And then DL Adaware antispy software instead of this shabby symantec products.. Hope this helps Hpro

Went for the drastic route of reinstalling Windows (XP home) and first thing after that is installing the Norton Internet Security 2004. Guess what...the stupid Norton Anti-spam still causes my OE to crash. Is it only me or it is a Norton problem ?
I bought this software because I think their AV and Personal Firewall was pretty good unlike their previous stuff. Guess I was wrong. |

Hi Hpro,
I tried your suggestion as well using JV tools to clean out the registry but still the same problem. Since its doing the same thing to Win XP, either the Norton Anti-spam is a real crap or its hardware related ? |

This is on Symantec website.
-------------------------------------------- Outlook Express 6 crashes when you click the "This is Spam" button Situation: You are using Outlook or Outlook Express 6. When you highlight a piece of email and click "This is Spam," or "This is not Spam," Outlook Express crashes. Solution: Symantec is investigating this problem. The cause is unknown, and there is no solution at this time. This document will be updated when new information becomes available or a solution is found. ---------------------------------------------------------- I wonder if their people actually use the software themselves before selling it. Cannot believe such a common function that most users will use is not caught before they started selling the product. |

if you read my prior post carefully then you could read that I wrote - get rid of Symantec anti spam etc - it started with Norton internet security 2003 which trashed win2k when installed...

can you really get rid of norton once you install it when you load windows? I mean, will it go away using add/remove programs?

The only programs from Symantec/Norton that is all right is the Anti-Virus, Ghost, and PC Anywhere. Everything else is trash they invented themselves or bought off of someone else and they will cause problems.
For everything NOrton sells there is a better program out there for free! |

Before "upgrading" to Norton Internet Security, I was using AVG (free). I went the Norton route because I wanted a Firewall. Should have gotten something else. What a waste of money. I search about my problem and it seems that this is a very common problem, reported and reviewed at many sites.
Good grief! Suitcase, you can use a registry cleaner like JVtools to mop up remnants of any software after uninstalling them. |
