XP Compatability Question
I have installed WinXP on my new HDD (listed in Sig), but I am still using all my old parts, such as Abit BH6 Mobo, 1GHz CPU, ATI 7000PCI, Creative AudioPCI and I was just wondering if there will be compatability issues when I install my new parts. I don't feel like doing a reinstall, so I will just plug my new HDD into the new motherboard, which will have all the parts listed in my signature. Will I have any problems with this stuff that I will need to do a full reinstall to get it to work right or will XP pick up all the stuff it needs to?
Also will I need to disable any drivers. I will not be using a soundcard in the build below, just the onboard sound. |

I do not see anything that will have problems with the upgrade or that cannot be corrected with new driver downloads. As a matter of fact most of the items above will have drivers automatically installed for them by XP. Most compatability prooblems with XP upgrades center around ANti-Virus programs and media related software.
When you first put your xp disk in the computer you will have the ability to run a compatability check on your computer that will tell you the program to uninstall. |

There will be a Pre-Check option on the disk or you can download it here

I don't think you understand what I mean fully. I am saying I currently have this HDD with XP pro (that i am using now) , and it is running with a slower system. I am saying will I be able to take the HDD and plug it into my new system (listed in the sig), and everything will work fine?

That is for Windows 2000 though, not XP, I know they are basically the same...but I don't know if that will be the same for XP. If that is the case, it may just be easier to do a full reinstall.
glc, if you read this post, can you please tell me if that is the same procedure that must be followed for XP. Thanks. |

I think you might have to run a repair on the system with xp on it.

xp is funney some times you can put the hard drive in to a new computer and it starts up and instals all the drivers then asks you to reactevate it other times it wont boot and you have to do a repair install the onley way to tell is give it a try make shore you have a back up of all your data and you know the cd key number just in case

Dan, I think you're better off just waiting for the new parts, then installing it clean when you get it all built. It will save you time in the long run.
