There are a lot of updates included in sp4. You can download all of the fixes independently from windows update if you so desire. In the past I have had problems with the express install of service packs. Now I use the network [or full version] of the service pack only. Here it [sp4] is running on two computers with the other running xp sp1. Some things to do prior to installing any service pack; empty the temp folder, clean temp internet files, uninstall any software that you do not need or use, run chkdsk, run drfrag. I have installed sp4 on approximately 15 computers with no problem whatsoever. On some of these it was an integrated install where the service pack is slipstreamed into the install; on others it was an upgrade.

Here you go. Choose the network install version. It should be approx 129 meg. I would burn it to cd so you will always have it. If you want to slipstream your win2k cd, copy it to your hd. Post back if you want to do this, I have detailed instructions.

Express install is just the files your computer needs. Network install is the entire sp. If you do not have an understanding of slipstreaming and what it does, these instructions will not make much sense. I have only done this with nero, however any cd burning program can make bootable cds.

Note this is for sp2, however it works with any service pack. The

First, get out your Win2K CD and copy all the files to a directory on your hard drive (I'll assume you're copying all the files to C:\win2k). You only HAVE to have the files in the i386 directory, but it's best to copy all the files since you're probably going to burn a CD and you want a fully functional CD.

If you have W2KSP2.exe, then you need to extract it using the command "W2KSP2.exe -x" (for example, "c:\downloads\W2KSP2.exe -x"). You can also use Winzip to open the file if you wish. Extract the files to a directory (I'll assume you're using C:\sp2). It creates a directory called i386. Ok, here's what you should do (again, assuming you copied your whole Win2K CD to C:\win2k and extracted W2KSP2.exe to C:\sp2):

Open up a Command Prompt box (note that you must be in Win2k already to do the slipstream). Type in "c:\sp2\i386\update\update.exe /s:c:\win2k" exactly. A gui should pop up, show you the progress, then tell you that it's done. That's it! You can now install Win2K from the files in C:\win2k and it will have SP2 integrated into the install.

Now we will make the bootable cd. Open nero and choose boot cd from the menu. Choose image for the source. Note you can either extract the boot image from your existing cd or use mine that I can e-mail you. Enable expert settings; make these changes.
Emulation = None
Loaded sectors change to 4
Go to iso tab choose 31 characters from the drop down menu.

Now we are ready to burn the cd. Open the folder you updated win2k and copy everything in the folder to the cd. If you want to put extra things on the disk like drivers, you can do that also. When you are finished, burn the cd; you now have a bootable win2k cd with the sp integrated.

I have done this at least 20 times for people, it works great with either win2k or xp.
