does turning off "eye-candy" make a dif?

hey, i was just wondering if you ajust windows for "best performance" instead of "best appearance" that if it makes a difference, and if so if its noticable and worth it.

it depends on your hard ware if you have a 1.5 gh or faster cpu and 256 or moor ram and a good vid card then the profermance gains are not verry much if you have a 500mh cpu and 128 ram with shaired vid on board then it makes a big diffrence

I turned off all the eye candy on my own WinXP computer and noticed the computer would react to my input much quicker. Menus would pop up much quicker and the system just seems "snappier". I don't care how the desktop looks, I just want the computer to work like a computer. I don't care about how the computer "looks" (explains why all 5 of my computers are just boring beige boxes).

Most of the people I build computers for like to have all the eye candy turned on and have been requesting fancy cases. To each his own I guess.

It depends on what "eye candy" you're talking about. Changing the colour scheme from the XP look to a more classic look doesn't make any difference. Turning off things like scrolling or fading menus does make a difference.

Nah, it happens. Turning down "eye-candy" is something to be concerned with.

I set all of mine to best perf. And there is a diff, it benches 10% faster in office apps with it set to look like 98/me/2k.
The pretty stuff takes a toll.
