Question Reinstalling Win Xp Pro!

I collected all the files and stuff I wanted to keep. I want a completely clean system - nothing but WIndows XP Pro on it. So I put in the reinstall OS disk, and i selected reinstall windows xp, and chose the way that when installs deletes all your old stuff. It asked me the language and that then restarted. I went through the first stuff where it asks for ATI deivices and all that. (I have none.) Then it said install on which partition? ***! I selected the NTFS cause thats the type I use. Then it told me installing 2 OS on 1 disk it dangerous! I thought I told it I wanted to do a reinstall. HELP ME!

Is this a restore disk that came with your computer or is it a retail version of XP?

problem - wont let me delete the NTFS - says temporary files needed for setup are on there. . . .

I started the reinstall by putting the reinstall disk in once i was at desktop - if this has something to do with it. . .

hi ernieno
first lets get your icons you wanted back right click the desktop and select properties then select the tab which says desktop at the bottem hit customize desktop button then put a tick in the my documents my computer and internet explor hit ok then apply then ok.

next lets check your drivers right click the my computer icon on the desktop hit properties and select the hardware tab look for the device manager button and press it do you have any devices shown whith a yellow mark on them if you do tell me which devices ? if you dont windows has corectly found and instaled your hardware whith its own drivers.

now close device manager and look for the advanced tab press it and then press the button marked settings under startup and recovery find the entry for automatically restart and remove the tick hit ok then apply then ok again

next install some anti virus software
then set the computer up to connect to the internet via your network dsl modem make shore you have the xp firewall enabled

next connect the computer to the internet and go to the windows update website and get all the critical updates and install them also any driver updates

when you have done all that and we have found any drivers you need then you canstart instaling your other programs and games

xp will install a standard vga driver for the vid card your useing.
you need to install all the drivers that came on the cd with you motherboard now.
and then install the drivers and software for the vid card from its cd.
then install sp1 last.

thanks guys.I didn't find anything that it couldnt find driverss for. But, I cant run counter-strike in OpenGL mode anymore. Small stuff like that. Exactly WHAT do i need to install from that disk. there arel all these drivers and stuff. They show up on disk but there are at least 60 of them - how do i just say INSTALL ALL? DO i need to install all?

BTW, i downloaded all critical updares, service pack 1, and all aditional drivers they offered. I can run in OpenGL mode and things seem to run faster - though it starts up slower.

hi Ernie
if you download aida32 from http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php and run it it will tel you witch vid card you have then go to the card manufactures website and get the newest drivers and install them after that check witch sound card you have and get the drivers for that then go back to the Microsoft site and download the latest version of directx and install that
even if you have the latest directx on you computer any time you update sound or vid drivers its a good idea to reinstall it
