XP Homey or Pro?
the title says it all
what are the differences and why would one be preferable to the other?

Use Pro. It networks better and security (for what it's worth) is better.

You need to post back with what you are planning on using it for before a good answer can be given.
In general, only get Pro if you need the added extras that Pro has, like the ability to connect to a domain, easier application of file security, and so on. |

i am not really a professional user. i mostly use my computer for basic internet surfing, professional photoshop and graphic applications, music listening, burning and ripping and finally, a few games- mostly simulations. i may try to set up a small home network between my old windows 98se maching, my girl's notebook and a new maching that i am building as we speak.

XP Home can do all the things you describe and you get to pocket the difference. (You could buy your girl friend another Christmas present!)
