PC Mech saved my bacon (again!)
Neighbor is getting cable Friday and called me yesterday cuz he didn't understand how to determine his system specs. He needed an ethernet card and a ram upgrade and I had parts in stock. Installed everything and did a Windows Update to his OS, 98 FE. Also added Adaware, Spybot, PopUp Stopper and AVG, cleaned out old programs and defragged the system. Took it back tonite and he had received an external CD burner for Christmas. Box said minimum OS was 98SE. Sure enough, tried to install it and Nero locked up on install. Took it back home and searched the old 98 threads for the "how to install 98se over 98fe". Thanx to Hal,Kubie, GaryRouth and others for making this another "duck soup" repair. Whole job only took and hour and a half including the added Updates and jump to Adobe Reader 6. This place is awesome!! Thanx again, guys.

I agree this site is a treasure trove of information. I hardly ever need to post my questions since the search feature usually has all the answers.

Yes PC Mech is awesome! It talked me through my first build and numerous other little repairs here and there. There are some very kind and friendly people registered

I've got to agree as well. Usually don't even have to post question since I can usually find it somewhere on the board.
It's also fun to "have the answer" when one of your friends needs a bit of help. Thanks to all that make this such a great board!!!! |
