Windows will not shutdown
alright, since I assume you will want all my system information as most forums do as well as the error message, here it is!
when I try to shutdown OR restart my computer pops up with a full screen BSOD (on Windows XP Home which is strange) with the error message of something like DRIVER_SHUTDOWN_ERROR (or something of the like, I will restart my computer and come back to this thread in a bit with the exact error message) Windows XP Home SP1 AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2 GHZ 768 MB RAM NVidia GForce 4 MX 440 Creative SBLive! PCI512 any other info you may need? just ask and I'll get it asap Thanks for any help that may be provided as well as any solutions Last edited by JPH1121; 12-26-2003 at 12:38 PM. |

Windows has detected a stop error and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your system (something along those lines)
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE my BIOS are set to stop the system on a severe error not restart... |

first thing i wood look at is your sound card if you go to control panal sounds and audeo devices click the sounds tab and scrol down the list to the exit windows sound and change it to none hit apply and try a shut down you may have to shut down twice to test

Mark: that article doesn't apply to my version of windows according to the page...I'm sure it would work anyway but is there a better way of isolating the offending driver than just guess and check?
