IE Cannot Open A New Window

IE cannot open a new window. Not even pop ups (which is kinda good), but it just hangs there for a while like it's trying, then everything starts working again, but no new window. I have been having some registry problems. Does this have anything to do with the registry?

It didn't help. I use 5.5, if that makes a difference.

What os? Is it fully updated? Have you tried running Adaware and Spybot to see if they find a problem? You may want to try a Registry repair/maintenance tool like Regcleaner. I prefer the full version of Registry Healer. Here's a link to Regclean. It's a free one.

I use Windows 98SE. I went to Microsoft and updated everything, but that didn't help. I went back to IE 5.5. I'm running Registry Healer now.

I tried that. The registry keys seem to be there. Should I delete them and re-add them, like I had to do with my Fonts key? I tried the Regsvr32 thing, but I never get a message saying it worked. If I just type in Regsvr32 I get a pop up box that says nothing. If I type in Regsvr32 Urlmon.dll, the mouse goes to a timer, then back to regular. If I type in Regsvr32 lakfjsdlfkjadkf.dll, the same thing happens. I can't tell if it worked or not, but IE still cannot open a new window.

I tried updating to Windows XP to see if that would do anything, and it says there is a problem with the C drive which cannot be repaired. I don't know if that would affect IE or not.

yes
did you back up your registry before you made any changes?
You might need to do a repair and I am not sure if you can with win98 and now that xp doesn't like c:\ , hmmmmm.
scandisk? Check your disk and do a thorough scan. you could have bad clusters.

I forgot to back up my registry. I ran a thorough scan, and it found errors and fixed them all. Should I try to install XP?

IE has a repair feature built in that may work for you. Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and find MS IE. Select it and you should get a repair option. Try it and see if that helps.
