Restarting Issue
After I installed my new FX 5200 video card, I noticed when I go to restart my system (happens all of the time now), it reboots as if were booting for the first time (cold boot). It will then run ScanDisk and work fine after that. Sometimes it will also hang when I go to restart (sits at black screen with blinking white cursor) - any ideas would be helpful.

Not sure I follow... Every box I've ever had goes to the "beginning" when I reboot... Logging off skips all that, though.

No, what I mean is, if I click Start, Shut Down and then Restart, it'll wait with a black screen and white cursor, sometimes I'll have to manually hit my reset button. When I do that, it boots as if I am just starting it up and ALWAYS runs ScanDisk now, no matter if it reboots correctly or not. It never did this before I installed the video card.

Sounds like a driver/software problem. Running XP or 98? If you're running XP, I'd go to a restore point before the card and do a system restore. Then see what's running at shutdown that could interfer. Do the usual full scandisk/chkdsk and defrag and registry check. After making sure everything else is OK, I'd download any latest drivers and try again. Win 98, I do the same except there is no system restore...

Nope, running Windows ME. Isn't there a way to disable ScanDisk from running upon start up?

Ya, but I can't remember if off had as I never used a ME box... But that is kinda masking the problem, I think. What programs are running at shutdown? Have you run a full Scandisk, including surface scan, after it's up and running?
