I have windows xp professional on my laptop and I've heard that you can share the software under 1 liscence for 1 laptop and 1 desktop pc. Is this true?

Think that's only with MS Office, not the OS packages.

NO... One Windows XP, one machine regardless of it being a laptop or desktop. For Office XP, you can install on one PC and one laptop.. not two PC's, not two laptops.
