Problems installing WinXP Pro

Hi,
Busy upgrading dads pc from ME to XP Pro. I reformatted his Hard drive no problem then ran XP Pro installation disk no problem till about 5 mins in when up pops a blue screen saying an error occurred, ending with the message '***stop : 0x000000c5(0x0002db71, 0x00000002,0x80536e14) ' followed by 'dumping physical memory' then 'physical memory dumped'. The mobo is a PC Chips with 1.8Athlon XP cpu, 256 SDRAM and a 60gb HDD. I unplugged the modem which was the only device installed but it still does the same thing.

Could it be a corrupt disk? Or something in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem recently. Turned out to be bad RAM. Might check the system by installing known good sticks of RAM or run Memtest. Download it at http://hcidesign.com/memtest/

Thanks but i cant run the mem test because the PC isnt up and running to test it. I havent got any SDRAM lying around, only DDR. The memory worked fine under WinME though

Sorry! I guess I'm not fully awake yet. I didn't realize that was the only PC. Are you trying to install by upgrade or by a fresh install? If you are using upgrade, try to install fresh by telling XP where to install (advanced under the installation tab). This will also give you the option to convert to NTFS which comes highly recommended. Might not work, but it's worth a shot.
