Recognizing CD-RW and DVD-ROM Drives
When I go into my computer, it recognizes my one drive as CD-RW, and my other drive, which is a DVD-ROM it just says CD-Drive. I have not installed and DVD Reading software, but once I do this will it recognize it as a DVD-ROM, or is there some way to enable it manually to say DVD-ROM?

It will just say CD-drive. On my computer, Windows XP does the same. By the names Windows gives them, I can't tell what it is.

Strange, mine does recognize it as a DVD-ROM drive and also lists the brand and the model.

Hmmm....maybe I'll install some DVD software and see what happens.

It won't change anything, as it's just software. It doesn't affect the device manager at all. DVD software actually doesn't affect the DVD-ROM drive, all it does is DVD video playback (ok, and a little bit more).
That's just windows. But it works, so no problem ![]() RJ |

Something's wrong with your OS, RJ, as my Windows Explorer list it as a DVD Drive.

Maybe it depends on the drive itself. Some may being listed as DVD drives in Windows explorer. There's nothing wrong with my OS. Actually I don't really care anymore since I changed the drive letters so that I recognise my drives
