an oldy :"HAL:No IO APIC found"
I'm trying to load a fresh install of NT onto a Fujitsu/Siemens Primergy 400 server.MOBO is a Nixdorf/Siemens D1031. I read through a lot of the old posts and it seems to point a bios problem or ide problem. Tried finding patches, etc and not having any luck. Anyone familiar with Siemens stuff.
(this just my "try it and see what happens computer")

Is apic an option in bios? Does it say anything abt apic? Not acpi but apic, two different things.
In that case can you install the acpi hal, not acpi uniprocessor? Don't know how to select a hal in NT at install, but in 2k and xp you hit f5 when it says to hit f6 for a 3rd party driver. From the drop down menu select acpi hal. Or standard hal if your bios does not support acpi as well as apic. |

Here's the rest of the error message:
"HAL: This HAL.DLL requires an MPS ver. 1.1 sys. Replace HAL.DLL with correct hal for this sys." Nothing in the bios about APIC but there is for MPS(multi-processor system?) "select 1.1 or 1.4" . Tried both,no go. |

This is an smp system? Do you have both cpus installed? If so try standard smp hal, and if the bios does acpi, try acpi smp hal.
If it has 1.4 mps, always go with it if you can, it handles memory better than 1.1, but sometimes depending on cpus and the mobo, 1.1 will be the only one that works. This is what I found on goggle re your mobo; http://th99.pley.org/m/S-T/35758.htm Not much info but it shows what it has as chipset, the gx being the expensive/deluxe way to do PII smp back in the day. I would see if a bios update is available. You may be able to get PII Xeons with 2megs cache for cheap on fleabay. (All I saw was ability to run PII 300 to 450.) 2megs cache is nice to have, and Xeons run theirs at core speed, not at half like all the other PIIs. Keep at it... |
