about xp oem
hello from the uk,
I am currently running win 98se and am thinking of buying a new HD and installing XP home on it,whats the difference between XP home OEM and the retail version,(if it is the retail version)?,i've heard i may have to buy some sort of hardware b4 i can install the XP home OEM. Is this true? thanks jp |

The main difference between Retail and OEM (besides the price) is support. With OEM, you are basically on your own, but IMO that rarely makes a difference. I think I have called a company for software support twice at the most in 10 years. It's not worth paying the extra money to buy the retail version.
Technically, OEM versions can only be sold with "hardware," but exactly what constitutes "hardware" is pretty lax. At www.newegg.com, you can elect to get a power cable splitter for free to fulfill this hardware requirement. Last edited by doctorgonzo; 12-29-2003 at 12:50 PM. |

I am using OEM version XP home edition I bought it with a stick of 256 mb ddr ram (pc2700) and it still didn’t work out as much as it would for the retail version. The only noticeable difference between the two is there’s no box for OEM

a new hard drive is oem compliant just get xp as well
