Cant erase windows xp!
Im trying to reformat a hard drive that i have for my lan party right now. I broke my other mother board with the windoews xp on it and i just learned that it wont boot up if its on a new board because it doesnt have something called the "inf" drivers from teh motherboard. I have the windows xp cd and floppy drive and what-not. so now when try to boot the windows 98 start up disk it wont start up period! it just shows and error after the post screen saying start windows found an error starting will u like to continue with the follwing. and then the following are start safe mode, boot to safe command, and start it normaly. ok thats kool but none of them work! i've tried to boot from the floppy but its still doesnt work. how do i reformat this problem, please need help now

So, when you boot from the WinXP CD then it doesn't recognize the hard drive, is that what happens ? In that case, you need to press F6 just when the first blue setup screen apeears. WinXP will ask you for the drivers for the controller where the hard drive is connected to, then you just insert the floppy, WinXP setup will copy the files and then recognize the hard drive. Then you can just partition and format as you like and install WinXP.

well after you do that you still will not be able to do anything with out the cd for the motherboard
you will need to install the inf file for the motherboard to function properly. |
