Windows XP driver problem

My mom has a compaq presario that had windows ME on it and I upgraded it to XP, only to find out that her DirectCD burning software was not compatible with XP. I went into add/remove programs and removed it, but at every boot there is an error message telling you that XP will not allow DirectCD driver such and such to load as it may cause system instability. OK. How do I get rid of the driver that is causing this error? Thanks.

BTW, I know that there is an update for DirectCD, but we chose not to use it as we are now using a pinicle program for the same perpose and it works much better, so please don't recommend an update for DirectCD, as I am looking to completely remove it, not fix it. THX

What exactly does a repair install do? I have never had to do one before. Will she lose any of her programs or settings? If she will then I can't do that because that is her buisiness computer and I would be in the dog house big time, LOL.

No a repair install will not harm her files. Go here to learn how to do it and what it does.
