network connections folder

I have setup a internet connection using the wizard and am online now posting this, yet no connection shows up in my network connections folder in contro panel. Why not. When I try to add a con none will show up.

I'm guessing it's because you're using a external serial modem...you don't see anything in networking because of something to do with the way the com port works (if I remember correctly). Are you trying to set up the WinXP firewall?

thanks for the reply cricket. No I'm not trying to setup the firewall. I'm just trying to get my con to show up in the network connections folder. It started with me trying to setup a con for dsl. I'm online now with the modem from my old dell pc (internal). It's listed as well as my USR external in the modems folder. I'm getting this message when I try to do something in the network connection folder.

"the network connections folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine please make sure the network connections service is enabled and running."

I have an ethernet card and modem installed but they wont show up in the con folder. How do I find and enable the "network connections service"? When I open the folder no cons are shown even though I can connect to the net.
