First of all, boot to WinXP Home and remove the partition that contains Windows XP Pro by formatting it or deleting the partition.
Next, boot from your Windows XP Home CD and choose to repair an existing installation when it asks whether you want to do that or install a fresh copy of Windows. This will bring you to the Repair and Recovery console. You will need to log in as an administrator here. When you are in the recovery console and the prompt comes up, type FIXMBR and press the Enter key on your keyboard. Windows will give you a warning. Choose to continue anyway and when all is done, Windows will reboot. The system will now be a single-boot Windows XP Home system.

To find out which partition you are on, Boot to Windows XP Home and right click the My Computer icon. Then select Properties>Advanced>Environmental Variables. In the second list on the page that comes up, you will see a value called "Path". The drive that this refers to is the one on which Windows XP Home is installed. Now do the same thing in WinXP Pro, just to be sure.
Now boot back into Windows XP Home, right click My Computer, select Manage, and navigate to Disk Management. Here you can format or even delete the partition you have identified as containing Windows XP Pro. |
