FX-51 and Windows

Does anybody have an exact release date or a site where I can download the beta I've heard so much about, or do I have to waste 100$ to buy XP then 64-bit again

Sumdumgi, that appears to only be for the Itanium, Intel's 64-bit chip.

I don't think an actual 64-bit Windows OS is going to be out until late 2004, or early 2005. Don't quote me on that though.

After reading the page again, I also thought that may be the case, but then I checked out the Technical Overview for Windows 64-bit and this is what I found out

Quote:
System Requirements
Processor: 900 MHz Intel Itanium | 1 GHz Intel Itanium
However, some of the wording makes me think that it may not have to be Intel:

Quote:
Windows XP 64-Bit Edition requires a 64-bit motherboard and chip set, available through Intel and several OEMs.
So I don't know, but I would say that you need an Itanium to use this, at least at this stage of development.

You would think that would be the case. I'm sure they will accomodate the AMD 64-bit CPU's later on.

Not a 64-bit Microsoft Windows OS compatible with the AMD 64-bit CPU's. You can use Windows XP, but it will not be able to take advantage of you 64-bit capabilities.

If you really want a 64-bit OS, you can try to look for a 64-bit Linux Distrobution. Maybe start by checking out these links from our Alternative OS Forum. If you can't find anything in there, I suggest giving Google a try.
