Wont take service packs and constantly asks for drivers
Hi guys,
Ive got this computer that im trying to put windows 2k on. The only problem is that every time it turns on, it "finds" new hardware, that hardware being my nic, video, floppy, and something else. Now, the nic and floppy will work, bu the video normally doesnt work very well. SO i figured i should put on a service pack, the only thing is after installing sp4 (and i think i also tried the odler service packs) upon reboot, the computer bluie screens and reboots again. unfortunatly the blue screen is too fast to read. any ideas about this thanx, jay |

Can you get it to work at all? You need to see what the error message is.
At what point do you get the blue screen? Have you tried booting the Last Known Good configuration by pressing F8 before Windows starts? |

There is absolutly no way to see what this error is, it goes way too quickly.
And yeah, i tried the last know good config, but the same thing happens, same with safe mode also. |

Have you tried a repair installation yet? If you can't boot to any mode, you really don't have a choice.
In order to keep that blue screen up, you right-click on My Computer, go to Properties, Advanced, and then Startup and Recovery. Uncheck "Automatically Reboot." Of course, you need to get into Windows before you can do this. |

i am tryin ghte recovery thing right now, but i really dont even care to get this installation back, i just want to make the computer be able to either keep its things installed or take the new service pack. the recovery finished while i was typing and it still gets the same problem. so im just gonna reinstall it again |

i got sp2 installed (of coarse it doesnt say sp2 is installed any where)
and it looks like my driver problem is isolated to the video now, everytime i restart it switches back to cga instead of ati rage 128 pro |

i am almost posotive that the problem was with the compatability of win2k with this motherboard, or mobo bios. I ve seen problems like that before, but this computer came from compusa and i have no idea what mobo it is.
I just gave up and installed windows 98, and everything works perfect, video capture on my ati and everything thanx guys. |
