Question How to place MS word calculation symbols

How to make a mean symbol. Example "x" and "-". In this symbol, it suppose to be the bar is aboce the x. How do I do this? Second: how to make a big "(" for example 1-(12/2). Thanks

There is an application in word called equation editor.

Tools > customize > select insert > scroll down the button list until you see a square root alpha sybol labeled "equation editor". Takes a bit of playing with to use it, but once you have it, it's a neat little app.
