Lightbulb Outline of the up and coming XP SP2

Quote:
Security Pipeline obtained access to the first widespread beta of Microsoft's forthcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) during the holidays. Microsoft has said that this beta represents a subset of what will be released when this software is finalized sometime during the first half of 2004.

We tested the new software on a couple of test machines, and found it to be very reliable during a couple of days use. It's not recommended that you install this beta in a production environment, however.

Unlike many Windows service packs, this one adds new functionality. There are four main areas where Microsoft has made user interface changes. They are:

1. Automatic Updates
2. Windows Firewall (previously known as Internet Connection Firewall, or ICF).
3. Wireless Networking network controls
4. A new pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer

Whoa!!!

Popup blocker for IE!

User interface for Auto Updates. Everything grayed out so you can't help but get them?

Will it make a dog of my machine just like the SP1?

Let's see.... don't need automatic updates, dont't need the ICF, don't need wireless netwroking, don't need a pop-up blocker. Why? B/c I either have them already or have disabled them. Way for M$ to steal ideas. But hey, I guess all those options will help the average person, I guess I'm just not average .

Hmm, the beta version is running fine, however we must wait for the release one, as M$ is now adding the final touches that will bog down our machines and spoil the SP.

I'm guessing SP2 will bog XP down, but SP2a will be alright.

Seems to be the pattern of things; good release, bad release, good release, bad release, etc.

So are a lot of ppl, Pam. The linux revolution has begun. Or should I say the "revolution away from microsoft" has begun. I saw an article (probably from force) about how microsoft is starting to lose market share and the beginning of a radical change is starting. People are beginning to look to other places besides M$ for OS's and application software.
